Along with your regular preventive oral care, there may be times when you may need urgent emergency dental treatment. As dental emergencies can occur at any time, we set aside appointments each day for patients suffering from unexpected problems affecting their oral structures.
So if you experience a toothache, chipped or broken tooth, a knocked-out tooth, lost filling, or any other dental emergency, do not hesitate to contact Tingey Dental in Twin Falls, Idaho, straight away to schedule an emergency dental appointment.
Our best advice is to contact our office at the earliest, so we can assess your situation and provide urgent dental treatment. In the meantime, you can follow the below instructions before using professional help.
Toothache
If you are suffering from severe toothache, you should seek immediate help. Dr. Brian Tingey will inspect your problematic tooth to identify the cause of your toothache and help ease your pain. We will recommend a suitable treatment to address the underlying dental problem, whether you are experiencing tooth decay, an infection, or a damaged nerve.
Meanwhile, to soothe your toothache, rinse your mouth with warm water, and try gently flossing around the tooth to remove any stuck food particles that may be irritating your gums.
Knocked-Out Tooth
If you have a tooth knocked out from a fall or accident, seek help, ideally within an hour. Please pick up the tooth by its crown, not the tooth root, to give it the best chance of being retrieved. If possible, carefully insert the knocked-out tooth back in its socket after rinsing it in water or milk. If you cannot do this, bring the tooth to our office in a cup of milk. Our team will do everything possible to assess whether the tooth can be re-inserted. If your tooth cannot be salvaged, we can discuss other tooth replacement options, such as dental implants.
Dental Abscess
Sudden, acute pain around a tooth’s root may indicate a dental abscess. This is a potentially severe condition caused by bacterial infection of your tooth’s root due to advanced tooth decay, gum disease, or damage to your tooth. If this is the case, you should seek immediate medical help. We will attend to the dental abscess and, if necessary, provide additional treatments such as an antibiotics course to address the underlying infection.
Broken or Chipped Teeth
Broken or chipped teeth should be treated as soon as possible. Prompt treatments can help avoid further problems such as bacterial infection or a permanently weakened tooth.
If you can recover the broken pieces of your tooth, we may be able to reattach them. Alternatively, we can repair your tooth with techniques, including dental bonding or veneers.Â
